The Overseas Highway runs 113 miles out to sea, hopping island to island all the way to Key West. Alongside it lies the only living coral barrier reef in the continental United States — a shallow, sunlit world you can reach with a mask and fins.
The reef off Key Largo and Islamorada is protected inside John Pennekamp and the Florida Keys National Marine Sanctuary. Warm, clear, shallow water makes it perfect for first-time snorkelers, with parrotfish, sea turtles and staghorn coral just off the boat.
